10 Powerful Duas to Recite During Hajj & Umrah

Ar Rawla Haj & Umra Service, Trichy, Tamil Nadu

Every step of Hajj and Umrah is an opportunity to speak directly to Allah. Pilgrims from Trichy, Chennai and across Tamil Nadu often ask our team at Ar Rawla which duas to memorise before departure. Below are the most important duas for your journey, along with their meaning, so you can perform an accepted Umrah with full understanding of every word.

1. Talbiyah - recited from Miqat until Tawaf begins

The Talbiyah is the opening declaration of your Ihram, recited continuously from the moment you cross the Miqat boundary until you begin Tawaf.

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ

Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk, Innal hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal mulk, la sharika lak.

Meaning: Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, blessings and dominion are Yours. You have no partner.

2. Dua on entering Masjid al-Haram

As you catch your first sight of the Kaaba, this is one of the most emotional and accepted moments of the entire journey.

Allahumma antas-salam, wa minkas-salam, fahayyina Rabbana bis-salam.

Meaning: O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. So grant us life, our Lord, with peace.

3. Dua before starting Tawaf

Bismillahi Allahu Akbar

Meaning: In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest - recited each time you pass the Black Stone corner during Tawaf.

4. Dua between the Yemeni Corner and Black Stone

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah, wa fil akhirati hasanah, wa qina adhaban-nar.

Meaning: Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.

5. Dua at Maqam Ibrahim

After completing seven rounds of Tawaf, pray two Rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim if possible, then make dua freely - this is a place of accepted supplication.

6. Dua at Safa before starting Sa'i

Innas-Safa wal Marwata min sha'a'irillah

Meaning: Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah - recited while facing the Kaaba atop the Safa hill.

7. Dua while drinking Zamzam water

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said Zamzam water fulfils whatever intention it is drunk for. Face the Qibla, say Bismillah, and make sincere dua for your needs - in this life and the next.

8. Dua after finishing Umrah

Before shaving or trimming the hair, take a moment to thank Allah for the ability to complete your Umrah and ask that it be accepted.

When should you make dua the most?

Many pilgrims from Tamil Nadu carry a small dua booklet with them for exactly this reason - it's easy to forget the exact wording in the emotion of the moment. At Ar Rawla, our scholar-guided groups walk you through every dua at every stage, so you never miss a moment of accepted prayer.
